Akṣarā organized this event in celebration of Tamil New Year (April 13) and Tamil Heritage. Madisar is a traditional way to wear a saree. They looks like Harem pants and can be worn in many different ways. To give a deeper understanding of the Madisar from various perspectives--historical, cultural, traditional, spiritual and holistic, Ms. Swarnalatha Iyer gave a talk and this was subsequently followed by a Madisar dress-up get-together in Times Square.
Akṣarā kickstarted by organizing Holi on the Hudson. Colors were thrown in the sky via kite-flying. It was a sold out family event with almost 100 attendants from Manhattan and New Jersey. For many it was a nostalgic experience where they grew up making and flying kites.
