In 2022 Akṣarā organized a number of in-person and online kite-making workshops in celebration of India’s 75th year of Independence. In this unique workshop one can get to understand the historical, social, and cultural significance of kites in India and also learn to make the country’s signature diamond kite. This workshop was designed to cater to K-8th grade students, and adults.
All in-person workshops in Manhattan were made possible by public funds from Creative Engagement, a regrant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC. The Creative Engagement grant is for projects of tremendous artistry that help connects Manhattan’s diverse communities through the arts.
